Enjoy the nightlife: Corfu is known for its lively nightlife scene, with many bars, clubs, and tavernas staying open late into the night.

Go on a hike: Explore the beautiful countryside and hills of Corfu on a scenic hike or trek.

Do not skip to enjoy your coffee along the busy Liston square, as well as meeting your friends at “Pentophanaro”
(5 Lamps), a well-known meeting point for locals and visitors. You might also have the chance to watch a cricket match
in Spianada Square, the largest square in the Balkans.

Corfu is renowned for its Easter events, held each year with glory and splendor and with impressive native customs that start on Palm Sunday.

On Great Monday and Tuesday various events are planned. On Great Wednesday, the Municipal Choir gives its own color and tone, with a concert of church music at the Municipal Theater.

On Holy Thursday, specifically in the Roman Catholic cathedral (the “Duomo” of the Town Hall Square), there are twelve lit candles and each one is erased at the end of every reading of the Twelve Gospels. Good Friday is the day that the Processions of Epitaphs takes place. In the villages the procession takes place at night, whereas in Corfu town the procession takes place during the day, starting with the epitaph from the Church of Panagia Spileotissa and the epitaph from the Church of Pantokrator.

Then, all the others follow, ending with the most magnificent of all, the epitaph of the Mitropolis.

On Holy Saturday, starting at 6 a.m., in the church of the “Madonna of foreigners” takes place a representation of the earthquake during the resurrection, according to the Holy Bible.

Later, the procession of the Epitaph of the church of Saint Spyridon takes place at his church and at the same time, the Philharmonic Orchestra accompanies the procession.

Later on, within a few minutes, comes the joy of the first Easter which happens at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. Huge crowds of people are waiting in Liston, Spianada square, and every small alley of the city for this one specific custom.

 

From all the balconies in every home of the island, residents throw in the streets large clay pitchers called “Botides”, many of them filled with water. The Easter Vigil on the evening of Holy Saturday finds us in Spianada Square. Finally, on Easter Sunday (Pascha), in every church, there is a procession of the Resurrection of the Holy Icon. The Philharmonic bands, of course, have their place of honor
